Kalshi Hourly Temperature Markets

Kalshi's hourly temperature markets settle on the Kalshi Weather Index: a weighted average of several airport stations per city, computed every minute. minuteTemp tracks all 13 index cities live.

What Kalshi lists

Kalshi runs one temperature market per hour, around the clock, for 4 cities: Miami (KXTEMPMIAH), New York City (KXTEMPNYCHS), Chicago (KXTEMPCHIHS), Los Angeles Coastal (KXTEMPLAXHS). Each hour has a ladder of strikes one degree apart, such as “75° or above”, and the ladder moves with the temperature from hour to hour.

Kalshi publishes the same index for 9 more metro areas that have no hourly market yet. minuteTemp tracks those too, and they are free to watch.

Kalshi has also listed single-station hourly temperature series, such as KXTEMPNYCH and KXTEMPDCH, under separate contract terms. Those are not Weather Index markets, and the hourly pages here do not track them. Check the ticker before you trade.

How the hour settles

  • The hour settles on the last official index minute at or before the top of the hour, looking back at most 60 minutes. It is not the hour's high, low or average.
  • Each minute becomes official 5 minutes after it ends and is never revised, so the settlement value is known about 5 minutes after the hour.
  • A minute is only published when enough member stations report. For Miami that is at least 4 of 5 stations and 80% of the base weight.
  • A strike like “75° or above” resolves Yes when the settlement value is 75.00° or higher.

The full method, with weights, offsets, fallbacks and missing minutes, is in the Kalshi Weather Index explained.

Station traps

  • The index is not the daily station. A daily market reads one station. The hourly index averages several, so the two are different numbers.
  • New York. The daily market names New York City Central Park (KNYC). The hourly market settles on the New York City index, an average of 8 airport stations (KLGA, KEWR, KTEB, KCDW, KHPN, KFRG, KSMQ, KISP) that does not include KNYC.
  • The hour in the ticker is Eastern time for every city, including Chicago and Los Angeles.

What minuteTemp shows for each hour

On every index page, all 13 cities:

  • The index every minute: a provisional value about 2 minutes into the minute, then Kalshi's official value.
  • Each member station's reading, whether it counts and its pull on the index.
  • An HRRR 15-minute forecast of the index, bias-adjusted to the live index.
  • What each hour settled as, by the same last-official-minute rule.

Only on the 4 cities with a Kalshi hourly market (Miami, New York City, Chicago and Los Angeles Coastal):

  • The strike the hour is in now and the forecast for the top of the hour, next to the live price ladder.
  • Settlement history checked against Kalshi's final value for the market.

The other 9 cities have no market, so there is no strike ladder and no Kalshi settlement to check against. Their hourly settlements are informational.

Kalshi hourly temperature markets FAQ

What do Kalshi hourly temperature markets settle on?
On the Kalshi Weather Index for the city, not on a single weather station. The hour settles on the last official index minute at or before the top of the hour, looking back at most 60 minutes.

A temperature index Kalshi publishes every minute for a metro area, to 0.01°F. It is a weighted average of several airport stations, each adjusted by a station offset that Kalshi re-estimates weekly.
Which cities have Kalshi hourly temperature markets?
Miami (KXTEMPMIAH), New York City (KXTEMPNYCHS), Chicago (KXTEMPCHIHS) and Los Angeles Coastal (KXTEMPLAXHS). Kalshi also publishes the index for 9 more areas with no hourly market yet: Houston, Dallas-Fort Worth, San Francisco Bay Area, Puget Sound, Philadelphia Delaware Valley, Greater Boston, Southeast Michigan, Kansas City and Minneapolis-St. Paul.
