Kalshi Weather and Temperature Markets
Kalshi lists a daily high and low temperature market per city and hourly markets on the Kalshi Weather Index. Here is what each one settles on, and the station behind all 24 cities minuteTemp tracks.
What Kalshi lists
Kalshi files its temperature markets under Climate and Weather. There are two kinds.
- Daily high and low. One event per city per day, titled like “Highest temperature in NYC” (series KXHIGHNY) or “Lowest temperature in NYC” (KXLOWTNYC). Each event is a set of strikes on that day's high or low, such as “Will the maximum temperature be >88°?”. Each city reads one station.
- Hourly. One market per hour for Miami, New York City, Chicago, Los Angeles Coastal. These settle on the Kalshi Weather Index, an average of several airport stations, not on the daily station. See Kalshi hourly temperature markets.
How Kalshi daily temperature markets settle
Kalshi's daily temperature markets settle on the National Weather Service daily climate report (CLI) for the station each market names. Every market carries its own rules. The rules on Kalshi market KXHIGHNY-26OCT02-T88 read:
If the maximum temperature recorded at New York City (CLINYC) for Oct 2, 2026, is greater than 88° fahrenheit according to The Weather Company, then the market resolves to Yes.
- Location. The code in brackets is the National Weather Service climate report code for the station. CLINYC is Central Park, not LaGuardia or JFK.
- Source. Kalshi's GLOBALTEMPERATURE contract terms name the National Weather Service as the source agency. The market rules cite the value as published on The Weather Company's Kalshi data portal, weather.com/kalshi.
- Which report counts. Kalshi's GLOBALTEMPERATURE contract terms use the first official non-preliminary report. Revisions published after expiration are not counted.
- Precision. Under the same terms, resolution uses the full precision the source reports. Rounding by other sites does not affect it.
- Timing. The same terms set the expiration time at 10:00 AM ET.

- On the official maximum or minimum for the NWS climate location the market names (for example CLINYC). Kalshi's GLOBALTEMPERATURE contract terms list The Weather Company, then the National Weather Service, as source agencies in order, and the market rules cite the value as published on The Weather Company's Kalshi data portal (weather.com/kalshi). minuteTemp tracks the NWS Daily Climate Report (CLI) for the same location. The first official non-preliminary report is used, at the full precision the source reports, and revisions after expiration are not counted. Sources read October 1, 2026: the contract terms and the rules on Kalshi market KXHIGHNY-26OCT02-T88. Rules can change, so read the rules on the market you trade.

- How do Kalshi temperature tickers work?
- Kalshi names each market with a series, an event and a strike. The series is the city and kind of market: KXHIGHMIA is the Miami daily high and KXLOWTMIA the Miami daily low, and some cities use KXHIGHT, as in KXHIGHTATL for Atlanta. Each day is an event that adds the date: KXHIGHMIA-26OCT16 is the Miami high on October 16, 2026. Each strike adds a suffix: KXHIGHMIA-26OCT16-B88.5 is the 88° to 89° bracket, and T marks the open-ended strikes at either end, like T91 for above 91°. Hourly events add the hour in Eastern Time for every city: KXTEMPMIAH-26OCT1614 is Miami at 2 PM, and KXTEMPLAXHS-26OCT1614 is Los Angeles at 11 AM local time. The table above lists the series for every city.
