New York temperature market FAQ
- Which weather station settles the New York temperature markets?
- Robinhood, Polymarket and IBKR markets use LaGuardia Airport (KLGA). Kalshi and Polymarket US markets use New York City Central Park (KNYC).
- How do the New York temperature markets settle?
- Polymarket settles on the hourly data ("Show Hourly Data") of NOAA's weather.gov timeseries for KLGA, in whole °F: the highest reading of the day for daily highs and the lowest for daily lows. Weather Underground's Daily Observations table is used only if NOAA's data for the day is unavailable by 11:59 PM ET the next day. Robinhood and IBKR list ForecastEx New York temperature contracts, which settle on the Weather Underground Daily Observations table for KLGA: the highest reading of the local calendar day for highs and the lowest for lows. The day is final once Weather Underground publishes the first observation of the next day. Robinhood's hourly HRULGA contracts settle each hour, Central Time, on the last KLGA observation taken after the hour minus 60 minutes and up to the hour, as Weather Underground shows it. Kalshi settles New York high and low markets on the official high or low for KNYC's NWS climate location, as reported by The Weather Company (then the National Weather Service). Polymarket US settles New York daily high and low markets on the NWS Daily Climate Report (CLI) for KNYC.
- What are the Kalshi, Robinhood and Polymarket tickers for New York temperature?
- Kalshi lists the New York daily high under series KXHIGHNY and the daily low under KXLOWTNYC. Each day is its own event, such as KXHIGHNY-26OCT16 for October 16, 2026, with one market per strike. The hourly New York market, KXTEMPNYCHS, settles on the Kalshi Weather Index instead. On Robinhood and IBKR, the ForecastEx New York daily high is UHLGA and the daily low ULLGA. Each contract is one strike on one day: UHLGA_101626_80 asks whether the high exceeds 80 °F on October 16, 2026, and ULLGA contracts ask whether the low is below a strike. Robinhood's hourly New York product is HRULGA. Polymarket has no tickers. Its daily event is titled "Highest temperature in New York on October 16?" with the slug highest-temperature-in-nyc-on-october-16-2026, and the daily low event's slug starts with lowest-temperature-in-nyc.
- What are UHLGA and ULLGA?
- They are the ForecastEx daily high and low temperature products for New York, listed on Robinhood and IBKR. ForecastEx, not Kalshi, is the exchange. UHLGA contracts ask whether the day's highest temperature at LaGuardia Airport (KLGA) will exceed a strike, and ULLGA contracts whether the lowest will be below one, with strikes 1 °F apart. Both settle on Weather Underground's Daily Observations table for KLGA for the local calendar day. Kalshi's New York markets settle on a different station, New York City Central Park (KNYC).
- Can I trade New York temperature markets on Coinbase?
- Yes. Coinbase lists Kalshi's New York temperature markets (KXHIGHNY, KXLOWTNYC and the hourly KXTEMPNYCHS) under the same tickers: the markets are operated by Kalshi, share Kalshi's order book and settle by Kalshi's rules, on the same station. Coinbase's prediction markets are not available to Nevada or Michigan residents.
- How often does minuteTemp update New York?
- KLGA updates every minute. KNYC updates with each METAR report, about hourly. Paid plans refresh the dashboard every 60 seconds; the free plan is delayed 3 minutes.
