Chicago temperature market FAQ

Which weather station settles the Chicago temperature markets?
Kalshi, Robinhood, Polymarket US and IBKR markets use Chicago Midway (KMDW). Polymarket markets use Chicago O'Hare International (KORD).
How do the Chicago temperature markets settle?
Kalshi settles Chicago high and low markets on the official high or low for KMDW's NWS climate location, as reported by The Weather Company (then the National Weather Service). Robinhood and IBKR list ForecastEx Chicago temperature contracts, which settle on the Weather Underground Daily Observations table for KMDW: the highest reading of the local calendar day for highs and the lowest for lows. The day is final once Weather Underground publishes the first observation of the next day. Polymarket US settles Chicago daily high and low markets on the NWS Daily Climate Report (CLI) for KMDW. Polymarket settles on the hourly data ("Show Hourly Data") of NOAA's weather.gov timeseries for KORD, in whole °F: the highest reading of the day for daily highs and the lowest for daily lows. Weather Underground's Daily Observations table is used only if NOAA's data for the day is unavailable by 11:59 PM ET the next day.
What are the Kalshi, Robinhood and Polymarket tickers for Chicago temperature?
Kalshi lists the Chicago daily high under series KXHIGHCHI and the daily low under KXLOWTCHI. Each day is its own event, such as KXHIGHCHI-26OCT16 for October 16, 2026, with one market per strike. The hourly Chicago market, KXTEMPCHIHS, settles on the Kalshi Weather Index instead. On Robinhood and IBKR, the ForecastEx Chicago daily high is UHMDW and the daily low ULMDW. Each contract is one strike on one day: UHMDW_101626_80 asks whether the high exceeds 80 °F on October 16, 2026, and ULMDW contracts ask whether the low is below a strike. Polymarket has no tickers. Its daily event is titled "Highest temperature in Chicago on October 16?" with the slug highest-temperature-in-chicago-on-october-16-2026, and the daily low event's slug starts with lowest-temperature-in-chicago.
What are UHMDW and ULMDW?
They are the ForecastEx daily high and low temperature products for Chicago, listed on Robinhood and IBKR. ForecastEx, not Kalshi, is the exchange. UHMDW contracts ask whether the day's highest temperature at Chicago Midway (KMDW) will exceed a strike, and ULMDW contracts whether the lowest will be below one, with strikes 1 °F apart. Both settle on Weather Underground's Daily Observations table for KMDW for the local calendar day. Kalshi's Chicago markets read the same station but settle on the official high or low for its NWS climate location as reported by The Weather Company, not on Weather Underground.
Can I trade Chicago temperature markets on Coinbase?
Yes. Coinbase lists Kalshi's Chicago temperature markets (KXHIGHCHI, KXLOWTCHI and the hourly KXTEMPCHIHS) under the same tickers: the markets are operated by Kalshi, share Kalshi's order book and settle by Kalshi's rules, on the same station. Coinbase's prediction markets are not available to Nevada or Michigan residents.
How often does minuteTemp update Chicago?
KMDW updates every minute. KORD updates temperature every minute, wind and humidity every 5 minutes. Paid plans refresh the dashboard every 60 seconds; the free plan is delayed 3 minutes.
